Today Show: Managing Chronic Knee Pain
March 30, 2009 by Jeanne
Chronic knee pain is something that I struggle with every day so I was really interested in the segment that aired on the Today show. I was so surprised by some of the statistics they shared – more than 20 million Americans suffer with knee problems and it is the single-most common reason people see orthopedic specialists. They also said that it’s the hardest-working, most complex joint in the entire human body so it’s no wonder it takes a beating.
They mentioned some warning signs to look out for. Consider seeing your medical professional if you experience any of the following:

Today Show Tips to Avoid the Family Cold
January 27, 2009 by Jeanne
It’s cold and flu season and I’ve heard a lot of my own friends saying that they’ve got a sick child/spouse at home and basically resign to catching the bug themselves. The Today show looked at ways to prevent the spread of germs in your home when someone is battling something like the common cold.
The began the segment by listing “must-haves” for your medicine cabinet:
Fever or pain reducer
Nasal saline drops
Antihistimine
Extra medicine droppers
Antibacterial ointment
Moisturizer
Thermometer
Honey (it’s shown to be an effective cough suppressant)
The tips to avoid passing a virus from one person to another included:
Sneeze into the crook of your elbow, not …read more
Is a Virus Really Responsible for Obesity?

On the Today show, they talked about all of these reports claiming that obesity could actually be caused by catching a certain virus. That just sounds implausible to me so, of course, I found this discussion very interesting.
They talked to Dr. Nancy Snyderman (NBC News Chief Medical Editor) who said that adenovirus 36 (adenoviruses typically cause the common cold) is found in obese people 30 percent of the time. This has caused some people to wonder if a virus can change how your body metabolises food. Studies using lab rats has shown that there really could be a correlation!

At a time like this, some people might be wondering if it’s okay to “regift” an item that they received but didn’t want or need.
On the Today show, they talked about how regifting is great for your wallet but is also a “green” way to give this season. I haven’t ever regifted but after watching this segment, I can understand how it can work. Watch it now:
