Ellen brought out some magazines that feature Kate as their cover story and she asked her how she deals with all of it.  Kate said that it’s been hard and tries to watch what she says since her children are always watching (and can always pull up videos of these interviews at a later time).

Kate insisted that she and her children have had a good experience making the show and doesn’t feel that she needs to give up the show.  She also tried to speak out about Jon’s behavior and how it has made things more complicated for their family.

Honestly, I can’t believe this is how this story is going.  The money that was put aside for their eight children has been left untouched but Jon took everything that the couple were supposed to share.  I’m not sure what Jon is thinking but this really is a surprising twist in this ongoing divorce drama.

Kate responded by saying that it’s been tough, but that she’s decided to be as respectable as possible. She even admitted to having a breakdown over the weekend. She was also asked by Joy Behar on why she agreed to start the show in the first place. Kate bluntly replied that she needed the money in order to provide for her children.

Kate seems to be handling all this drama relatively well and I’m sure it can’t possibly be easy, so given the circumstances, right now, I think she’s doing the best that she possibly can. In the end, it’s all about he children so hopefully they haven’t been affected too negatively by all of this.

I definitely have thought about what might have happened if they had sought marital counseling and without knowing all of the details, I assumed that they never even tried.

Jon Gosselin, however, says that he did want them to see a therapist but it’s not something he could do alone. 

During an interview on ABC’s primetime special, Family Secrets, he said that he suggested marriage counseling but his wife, Kate, would only talk to Dr. Phil.  "I was very hesitant," Jon says. "I was like, ‘What the heck is this?’"

"I have a $22,000 therapy bill," he says. "I mean, I tried to have marriage counseling. I did it myself. She refused to go."

Instead of focusing on the problems in their marriage, Jon felt that the session was all about their public imagine.  "We talked about the brand and corporate things and making the brand work," he says. "I felt it was weird. I was like, ‘Why am I here? I could be snowboarding.’ It wasn’t helping."

D. Phil released the following statement: "I respect the Gosselins’ privacy, I have no comment on their marriage."

Kathy’s appearances have always been controversial and she seems to clash, to some degree, with Barbara Walters but they are always shocking and entertaining so I know viewers will tune in.  The only thing that bugs me about Kathy is the timbre of her voice – it’s just so harsh!  Still, you have got to be pretty tough to roll with the ladies on The View so it works.

I’m not sure how Kate Gosselin is going to fare.  Yes, she’s familiar with being in front of a camera but live television is not the same as being interviewed on a talk show or starring in an editing reality TV program.

We all know that she’s a little on the nitpicky side so it will be interesting to see if she tries to assert her opinion and hold her own with Sherri, Whoopi, Joy and Barbara (if Babs is there).

Kate and her husband, Jon Gosselin, have filed for divorce after 10 years of marriage and, among other things, they’ve been talked about in the press so much about her alleged affair and bad parenting and Jon’s infidelity.  A lot of viewers were heartbroken to see this family fall apart but it happens to even the best of people and, while I haven’t always been a fan of Kate, I think that she has conducted herself a lot better through this ordeal than Jon has. 

Of course, some people have been holding out hope that the famous couple would get back together and, apparently, Regis Philbin is one of them.  He really pressed her about whether she would go back to Jon and said that the couple might “live happily ever after.”  I thought it was really inappropriate even if it is something that a lot of people have wondered about.  What do you think?  Did Regis go too far?  Watch the video and decide!  Kate actually looks close to tears.

I have to admit that I haven’t been a fan of Kate in recent years and I felt like she was overly critical of Jon on numerous occasions on the show (it was really cringe-worthy) but since the split, Jon’s decision to run around with women, smoke and wear earrings and designer clothes has changed my opinion.  I was really proud of Kate when I saw her trying to do things she’s never done before (like starting a camp fire and setting up a tent) on last week’s episode.

The Today show highlighted some of these moments when Meredith Vieira sat down with Kate this morning, who said that she’s doing “as well as can be expected.”  They also talked about why Kate still wears her wedding ring.  She says she wears it for their children because she doesn’t want to upset them any more than they already are.  She said that she and Jon are two different people now with two very different sets of goals and that the marriage is definitely over.

The whole interview is very interesting – they talk about Jon’s relationships, the rumors about Kate having an affair with her security guard and how she’s been handling life after the split.

While speaking to Us Magazine at an event at the American Theatre Wing in New York City, Kathie said:  "I would turn off the cameras if I were them and just work on healing together as a family.  Who knows the long-term damage something like this could do? I understand they are making a living, but you have to wonder at what price."  Jon has said that he no longer wants to live his life in front of the cameras while Kate wishes to continue the show.

With such strong words for the reality TV family, is Kathie Lee watching the show?  No, she says.  "Frank and I are probably the only two people in America avoiding that show. We are not reality fans and prefer to live reality. We sure don’t want cameras following us around and picking on us!"

I never thought the day would come when I would say this but… I agree with Kathie Lee.  I think that for the sake of their children and their marriage, they should stop the show and work things out.  Sure, they might lose the $75,000 per episode that they’ve been making but, surely, with what they’ve already been paid and Kate’s book sales, there is enough for this family to live on.  What’s more important, anyway?  Money or your family?  Fortunately, they’ve got enough of both to go around…

Anyway, on the Today show, they discussed the premiere and what it meant for the family.  One thing that was mentioned was the fact that it seemed the kids have been kept in the dark about things which is probably a mistake.  Watching the show, you could feel the tension and the kids have got to be feeling uneasy (at one point, one of their daughters even told her daddy that she didn’t want him to go away anymore).  This was a really interesting segment since what was said not only applies to the Gosselins but also to any family that is going through a hard time or a divorce.  Check it out:

Before they could get to that, however, host Meredith Vieira suggested they get rid of the “elephant in the room” and discuss the rumors about her husband, Jon. 

First, a photo of Jon with an unknown woman was taken outside of a bar in the wee hours of the morning. Then, the woman’s brother claimed to have proof that Jon was being unfaithful to Kate (he even supplied footage of the man leaving his “lover’s” house at 7:30am after sleeping over).  Then Jon and Kate addressed the gossip and denied that any of it was true (read a recap of the whole thing on Every Joe!).

I was very interested in seeing how she was going to respond to the questions about the whole scandal.  She said that she is very hesitant to believe any of the allegations and that having rumors made up about them “goes with the territory” (of being on television).  Meredith got right to the point and said that Kate was “no shrinking violet” (understatement of the year!) and asked how she really reacted when she first heard the stories.  She said that they are working through it but that they are dealing with it privately.  Jon sent a message to be read on-air and he reiterated that he did not cheat on Kate.

Meredith quickly changed the topic and asked Kate about her book and what advice she has for new moms.  She said “every day do your best, it’s one step closer to your goal which is raising health, happy, independent adults.”  That’s definitely how I see it.

What did you think of the interview and, more specifically, Kate’s reaction to the questions about Jon’s behavior?  I can’t lie (on several points).  I’m having a hard time believing Jon.  I’m not saying he’s guilty but the evidence of his “poor judgment” is overwhelming to me, as a wife.  I know a lot of people talk about how Kate treats him on the show and I can’t help but wonder if that has played a role in any of this as well.  The fifth season of the show is coming later this month and I wonder if this experience is going to change their relationship at all.  I also wonder if Kate is going to soften up when all is said and done.  I feel sorry for their family, though, because no kids should be in the middle of this type of scandal and controversy.
