While so many have focused on President-elect, Barack Obama, and how they believe he will lead the United States, the Today show painted the portrait of a new First Lady. The wife of the president is an important role since, if any of you have been married (or in a long-term relationship), you will know how much influence a spouse or partner can have. When Bill Clinton was in office, it was clear that his wife, Hillary, who unsuccessfully ran against Obama in the Democratic primaries, was a strong woman so, it is natural, to wonder about Michelle Obama. She is a mother of two young girls but many people may not realize that, after coming from humble beginnings, Michelle earned a scholarship, graduated from Harvard and became a lawyer. I think that background is going to be important during her time in the White House.

This segment is interesting because they not only look at Michelle but they also make some comparisons to current First Lady, Laura Bush, and former First Lady, Hillary Clinton. Watch it here:

Since Oprah has been so vocal about her support of Barack Obama, some have wondered if there will be a spot for her in his administration. I think that’s both silly and unlikely (I guess stranger things have happened, though!).
This morning on the Today show, they talked a bit about that and what an endorsement from Oprah means. The things she promotes and suggests turn to gold. I know that standing behind Obama probably helped him but I can’t credit her with winning the presidential election for him.

Oprah Winfrey and Tina Fey have both been tied to the U.S. elections this past year – Oprah has been a very vocal supporter of president-elect, Barack Obama while Fey has been praised for her spot-on impersonations of Governor Sarah Palin, who lost her bid to become the first female vice president with running mate, Senator John McCain.
