Rachael Ray Talks of Choice to Remain Childless

June 23, 2009 by Jeanne

Rachael Ray is many things – an author, a successful chef, talk show host, cookware creator and wife – but she’s never become a mother.  Of course, in our society, when we hear about a woman who chooses not to Rachael Ray3970.JPGhave children, we wonder why she would make that kind of decision (we also wonder if she and/or her  partner is infertile).

In an interview on Nightline, she addressed the touchy subject: “I think that I’m 40 years old, and I have an enormous amount of hours that have to be dedicated to work. For me personally, I would need more time to feel like I’d be a good mom to my own child. I feel like a borderline good mom to my dog. So I can’t imagine if it was a human baby….I feel like it would be unfair, not only to the child but to the people I work with.”

When asked if she felt like she might be missing something Rachael said:  “I don’t feel like I am. I really don’t.”

She’s not alone.  I know a lot of people in my own life who have chosen to never have children and they seem happy with their decision.  Also, fellow talk show host, Oprah Winfrey, has also opted to never raise any children of her own.

What do you think?  Are childless couples missing out in life?

“Classic Dr. Phil” Every Tuesday and Thursday This Summer

June 23, 2009 by Jeanne

Every Tuesday and Thursday this summer, the Dr. Phil show will air an episode that viewers wanted to see again.  Make sure you tune in so that you don’t miss a “Classic Dr. Phil” moment!

classic dr. phil

Tuesday June 23, 2009 - Classic Dr. Phil: Mixed Signals

Statistics tell us that 80 percent of all communication is non-verbal. Do you ever wonder if your body language turns people off? Does your handshake scare people away? You never get a second chance to make a good first impression, so find out what messages you’re sending — without saying a word. Karen says she was taught to have a firm handshake and to be independent. Is she simply a self-confident woman, or are her actions driving men away? Plus, learn how one couple makes doing the little things mean more than saying, “I love you.”  (Original airdate: October 25, 2002)

I remember and enjoyed this episode.  I really did take a lot away from it because I do feel that I send mix signals all the time.  This is a great one if you are looking to make some adjustments in how you communicate with the people in your life.

Thursday June 25, 2009 - Classic Dr. Phil: What Do We Do Now?

Tragedy can change lives in an instant, often leaving us wondering what to do next. In this powerful episode, Dr. Phil discusses strategies for coping with personal disaster. Drew and Amanda said they were crippled with guilt after the death of their 3-year-old son. Although the child’s drowning was accidental, Amanda said she felt like she didn’t deserve to enjoy life. Plus, Geri’s husband, Scott, suffered from bipolar disorder and took his own life. Geri said she struggled with anger and couldn’t forgive her husband for leaving her. If you have difficulty moving on after a loss, and you punish yourself for things outside of your control, don’t miss this important show!   (Original airdate: May 30, 2003)

This episode aired not long after I had my third child and I could not stop crying.  The suffering of these family members is so gut wrenching and raw that it was almost hard to watch.  This really is an important show to watch because I believe that so many of us blame ourselves for things we cannot change.  If you feel that way, make sure you tune in and hear what Dr. Phil has to say!

Lauren Conrad Tells The View That Spencer Pratt Never Apologized

June 20, 2009 by Jeanne

The Hills star, Lauren Conrad has put recent claims made by co-star, Spencer Pratt, into question with her recent appearance on The View.  He claims he apologized to her after fabricating rumors of her appearance in a sex tape, only so that she’d attend his wedding to Heidi Montag. However, in an interview with the ladies of The View, Lauren says that she never even received an apology from Spencer and that the apology that he supposedly made in a phone call to her on television, was fake.

She says,"To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t on the other line of that call. That was filmed and I wasn’t on the other end. … So no, I didn’t get an apology; he’s lying."

The ladies, Sherri Shepherd in particular, seemed to be take a back by this news after he lied on the show recently. That is awful. However, it’s not all that surprising coming from a man like Spencer who seems to thrive on lying and attention.

Oprah Treats Her Staff to Mediterranean Cruise

June 20, 2009 by Jeanne

Oprah Winfrey is indeed a luxurious woman so it’s only natural that she thank people in luxurious ways. The staff of The Oprah Winfrey Show are being treated by the well-respected talk show host to a Mediterranean cruise! Not only that, but the staff will be permitted to bring some of their family members with them.

They will all be departing today and will tour Spain, Italy, Turkey, Greece and Malta. All expenses will be paid by Oprah, which includes transportation, food, drinks and activities. Apparently, the cost of this cruise ship ride for one person is $5,400!  In 2005, she paid all the expenses so that her staff could get away for a little while in the tropical island of Hawaii.

Wow! I’m sure they are quite thankful for such generosity. There is no doubt in my mind that it is well deserved, though. It can’t be easy working for Oprah Winfrey!

The Jonas Brothers Perform on The Today Show

June 19, 2009 by Jeanne

This morning on The Today Show the Jonas Brothers stopped by to perform a bunch of their fan favorites. They started off with their hit singles, “Burnin’ Up” and "Lovebug" which were off of their 2008 album “A Little Bit Longer.” Then, they treated the audience to their songs “Paranoid” and “Much Better”, both off of their newly released album “Line, Vines and Trying Times.”

Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas, Kevin Jonas

They sounded relatively good, something that’s not always common for the Jo Bros. I find they have a hard time with live performances, but I respect that they still are quite young and seem to be working hard. I actually don’t mind their new single “Paranoid” and I like that they decided to do something a bit different with this newest album. I’m not exactly sure how I feel about their single “Much Better” which is supposedly aimed towards Joe Jonas’s ex-girlfriend, Taylor Swift. It sounded a bit screechy to me. What did you guys think?

Ashley Tisdale “It’s Alright, It’s OK” - Good Morning America

June 18, 2009 by Jeanne

Ashley Tisdale was on Good Morning America earlier this week where she performed her single “It’s Alright, It’s OK” which is the first release from her Guilty Pleasure album, which drops on July 28, 2009.

Ashley Tisdale

The track is a bit of a departure from what we’ve come to expect from the High School Musical star – it’s a little edgier with a slightly heavier rock sound.  I think it’s great that she’s trying to experiment with a new sound and expand her talents.  I wouldn’t say that I love the song or the performance but I know that it’s a little hard when a song is still new and the artist hasn’t gotten used to singing it (plus, it was early in the morning although you wouldn’t know it by how much energy Ashley had!).  My only comment is that I hope she does try to become too sexual in an effort to shed the Disney image.  Check it out and tell me what you think:

Jada Pinkett Smith Gets Interviewed on The View

June 17, 2009 by Jeanne

Yesterday, Jada Pinkett Smith stopped by for a chat with the ladies on The View. Jada is an executive producer and main cast member on the show HawthoRNe, which aired it’s pilot episode yesterday on TNT. They spoke a bit about the show and how it’s difficult to get back into acting on television.

To the amusement of the audience, she also hinted to some intimate details about how she and her husband, Will Smith, like to keep their marriage exciting after 12 years of being married and 18 years of being together. It was hilarious! She looked beautiful and it’s nice to see that she and her family are doing well!
