Dr. Phil’s Tips on Handling Toxic Relationships

October 22, 2009 by Jeanne

Almost everyone can relate to having a toxic relationship in their lives.  Whether it’s with a family member, friend or even co-worker, these types of relationships can be draining and painful for everyone involved.

Dr. Phil posted a video on his YouTube channel giving advice on how to handle these situations.  His first tip was to make sure to treat everyone with respect.  Most importantly, he said that the issue needs to be brought out in the open and dealt with since it won’t go away on its own.

I agree with Dr. Phil this time.  Here’s the video:

OneRepublic Sing “All the Right Moves” on Ellen

October 22, 2009 by Jeanne

OneRepublic, who you probably know best from their hits “Apologize” and “Stop and Stare,” were on Ellen earlier this week where they performed their new single “All The Right Moves” and I thought they did a truly excellent job.  The chorus is in the upper register and I wasn’t sure Ryan Tedder was going to be able to pull that off live but he did quite well.

Watch the performance!

Sarah Palin Will Be Guest on Oprah

October 21, 2009 by Jeanne

Sarah Palin has agreed to sit down for an interview on Oprah in an episode that should air on November 16, 2009.  I know that this is going to be HUGE for ratings!  Hopefully, Oprah will ask all of the questions everyone wants to know: Why did she resign as the Alaskan governor?  Does she still get along with John McCain?  What’s the deal with Levi Johnston, the father of her daughter’s baby?  Can she really see Russia from her old house?

Oprah originally asked Palin to be on the show during the 2008 election season but she declined.  I’m guessing she was uncomfortable with the fact that the talk show queen was so supportive of Barack Obama.

Palin’s autobiography Going Rogue: An American Life hits bookstores the same week so I’m sure the timing of this interview is not a coincidence.

Try These Authentic Italian Dishes!

October 21, 2009 by Jeanne

Almost everyone loves Italian food but many don’t know much about the fare beyond your typical pizza and spaghetti so it was great that the Today show demonstrated how to make some authentic Italian dishes.

One meal they prepared was cavetelli with eggs and bacon which looked like a mix between a carbonara and a frittata.   For dessert, they made a bread parfait.  The bread is socked in espresso coffee, chocolate and rum and is then layered in a dessert glass with whipped cream.  It’s a great way to get rid of leftover bread.  It was so quick and easy!

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Talks Nipple Slip and Baby Pictures

October 20, 2009 by Jeanne

Elisabeth Hasselbeck is back from maternity leave!  She looked every bit the glowing new mother and she shared a really cute photo of her new son, Isaiah.  She did have an embarrassing moment to share, however.

The View co-host explained that right after breastfeeding her son, he gave her the biggest smile and, wanting to capture the adorable moment, she reached for her iPhone and snapped the shot.  She forwarded the picture to all of her family members only to discover that her nipple is featured prominently in the image.  Yikes!  I’ve definitely had a couple moments like that in my time as a mother!

Dr. Oz’s Immune-Boosting Tips

October 19, 2009 by Jeanne

With the H1N1 virus circulating around the world, people are looking for ways to stay healthy more than ever.  Who better to give good advice than Dr. Oz?   Dr Oz

Believe it or not, his advice is pretty simple.  Here are his main tips:

  • Take Vitamin D – even if you are out in the sun a lot, you may not be getting enough of this essential vitamin.  Dr. Oz suggests that people take 1,000 units a day.
  • Get enough sleep – I know life is busy and there never seems to be enough hours in a day but it’s really important to get a full night’s rest so that your body can recharge and be ready to withstand viruses.
  • Exercise -  staying active is an important part of being healthy since it is one of the most powerful ways to stimulate your immune system.  Obviously, don’t overdo it (and let your body rest if you are already sick) but try to commit to fitting in at least 30 minutes of exercise every day.

Sounds easy but in our fast-paced world, making even small changes can be a challenge.  I think the best thing to do is to take it a step at a time and master one thing (like remember to take your vitamins) before adding another.
