Tom Cruise Returns to Today Show - Video
December 15, 2008 by Jeanne
This morning on the Today show, Tom Cruise sat across from Matt Lauer for the first time since that awkward "glib" interview in 2005. Matt, from the start, makes it clear that they are not engaging in a "rematch," which I appreciated. I’m one of the few, I guess, who never understood why people were so upset by what Tom said. Was it controversial? Yes, but I’ve seen WAY worse things said on television. What I really think it boils down to is that life is really tough and we don’t want to imagine the possibility that psychiatric medications aren’t the answer. Research has shown over and over that exercise can be just as effective in the management of depression but we don’t want to hear that, exercise requires time and effort and most of us are really short on time.
Anyway, without getting on my soapbox, I really respect Tom for returning to the show and picking apart his own behavior and saying that he "came across arrogant." I also respected that Matt said that there was "no animosity" between the two after that last interview and that he was surprised to learn that people thought they hated each other.

Hot Topics on The View - December 10, 2008
December 11, 2008 by Jeanne
Yesterday’s episode of The View was completely devoted to "Hot Topics" which kicked off with a discussion about the Senate seat scandal surrounding Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich (president-elect Barack Obama is appalled).
They also talked about the new 90 minute variety show hosted by Jay Leno which will air right before Conan O’Brien, who will be taking over Jay’s old late-night talk show.
The women also explored what’s been happening on primetime television with so many shows being cancelled, which appears to be related to the current recession.
They also talked about the 70-year-old woman in India who decided to have a baby to celebrate the woman’s momentous birthday. Whoopi’s reaction? "What the hell?!" (actually, they said "what the hell?" about pretty much everything today which was funny).
Whoopi also brought up the CosmoGirl magazine survey 22% of girls have emailed or posted nude or semi-nude photos of themselves online, 1-in-5 boys have done this as well. WOW.
The women were joking around about a paparazzi photo that seemed to show ABC soap star, Cameron Mathison, wearing a thong. Cameron burst onto the stage and provided a very logical explanation for the photo.
Wanda Sykes on Ellen DeGeneres Show - Video
October 31, 2008 by Jeanne
Comedien, Wanda Sykes was on the Halloween special of the Ellen DeGeneres Show today to promote the new season of her show, The New Adventures of Old Christine. Her Halloween costume was hilarious! Ellen’s was pretty funny - she dressed up in quarters, pennies and dimes to support a familiar concept in political discussion this year. She dressed up as “change”! You gotta give it to Ellen, she’s so creative and she gets her point across.

Gayle King At New Yorkers For Children Gala
September 17, 2008 by Jeanne
Oprah Winfrey’s best friend forever and former talk show host, Gayle King, was spotted at the “New Yorkers for Children” gala yesterday in New York City, New York (where else!?).
I think she looks really elegant and is a great example for women who maybe aren’t 20 years old anymore but continue to look good and take care of themselves. I’m not in love with the pattern on her dress but the cut is very flattering!

The Bonnie Hunt Show - First Impressions
September 9, 2008 by Jeanne
I watched the premiere episode of The Bonnie Hunt Show and I liked it.
I think she was nervous, I think she didn’t do herself any favors by picking a crazy first guest (Robin Williams - who I love, by the way) but I forgave it all for a number of reasons:
- She wore regular clothes. I felt comfortable with her right away because she and I look like we’ve got the same wardrobe. It wasn’t distracting and her hair was gorgeous! I liked the glasses too. My oldest child barely recognized her with them on (see? Bonnie is already pulling a Superman/Clark Kent!).
- She loves her family and made them a focal point throughout the show. The fact that the intro animation is based on her little niece’s drawings really won me over. So sweet!
- She spoke with her Chicago accent (my family is from there!). I had no idea that Bonnie actually sounded that way in real life. I loved just listening to her!
- The set is really beautiful. It’s as if she is welcoming us into her home and those floors are stunning!
The episode wasn’t without it’s share of trouble, though. Robin Williams, who regularly ventured into inappropriate banter, was hard to control. You could tell that they clearly are great friends and that she actually was mortified once or twice. I think if she had just relaxed during those times, it would have looked better. Instead, she looked like she had lost control of the show and was worried about it rather than just sitting back and saying “yeah, everyone knows what Robin is like. They are going to understand…” With time, though, I think she could be great. The format reminds me of the Rosie O’Donnell show a bit, before Rosie got angry.
Did you watch the show? If so, what did you think?

Today Show Tips: Beat Daily Bloating
September 1, 2008 by Jeanne
The Today show did a segment about beating daily bloating and it made a lot of sense (of course, Kathie Lee Gifford had to add her two cents every three seconds to bring attention to herself but I digress…). Two tips came as no surprise to me - cut back on salt and drink lots of water. Some people aren’t sure if they are getting enough water but a good way to tell is if your urine is a nice clear amber color (I think I should probably go pour myself a glass right now, lol!). Watch the video here:
