Sherri Shepherd Gets the Last Laugh in Jet Magazine

Life for Sherri Shepherd hasn’t been easy. Her husband cheated on her and she went through a painful divorce and now she’s a single mother. When she’s not co-hosting on The View, she has been working on a new book and a comedy series on the Lifetime Television network.

She recently talked to Jet magazine about her new hit show and how doing stand-up has helped her heal. “With me being in so much pain from when you have a betrayal from your best friend–who was my husband–and the girl got pregnant, I couldn’t even get out of bed. The only thing that saved me was my stand-up. I would get on stage and just talk about stuff and I made people laugh.”

People might not realize how much strength that must have taken but I’m happy for her. She’s also lost a lot of weight and it looks like she’s about to start a whole new life!

Rachael Ray, Tyra and “The View” Win Daytime Emmy Awards!

It was a fun night watching the Daytime Emmy Awards last night. Did you catch the show? If not, here’s a quick rundown of how our shows and hosts fared.

I wasn’t surprised at all to see that the Tyra Banks Show won the “informative” talk show award since she is constantly trying to push the envelope to educate her viewers whether it’s a giant stuffed vagina or having pregnant prostitutes on the show to tell their stories. She really has carved out a niche for herself and I’m really happy for her.

The Rachael Ray show won the “entertainment” talk show prize and I have to say that I was a little surprised by it but, then again, I’m continually amazed by this show’s success. I didn’t think it was even going to last a single season but, here it is, winning awards!

I was stunned, however, when the ladies on The View beat out Ellen DeGeneres for “best talk show host” after Ellen dominated the category for the past four years. You know she’s at home right now wondering what she did wrong (nothing!). I think that viewers really connected with the discussions surrounding the 2008 US Presidential Elections on The View and that probably helped them capture the prize.

Cookie Monster’s Balanced Diet – What’s Next? Elmo on Ritalin?

Have you seen the changes that Cookie Monster has gone through recently? Apparently, it’s no longer a good idea to have him eating, well, cookies so he’s been noshing on healthy snacks like carrots and apples. Whoopi Goldberg argued that it was stupid to have the Sesame Street character change his diet and doesn’t feel like he should be blamed for childhood obesity and I completely agree.

Sherri Shepherd felt that changing Cookie Monster’s trademark eating habits was the right thing to do and she disagreed wholeheartedly with Whoopi. What’s next? Are they going to suggest that The Count get treated for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder since he can’t stop counting? Is Oscar the Grouch going to get a prescription for anti-depressants? What about Elmo? He’s clearly a case for Ritalin since it could easily be argued that the red furry dynamo suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Heck, why don’t we just scrap the whole show since we don’t want to teach kids that puppets can actually talk?

My children are very active and slim. So are my siblings. We all watched Sesame Street. We all laughed at Cookie Monster’s antics. I agree with Whoopi – this is absurd. Watch the segment and tell me what you think!

Wendy Williams Discusses Sherri Shepherd’s Bikini Outfit

Sherri Shepherd of The View will be wearing a bathing suit next week and she’s been working hard to try to look her best. I hope she shows that swimwear can be flattering on women of all sizes!

Wendy Williams took a moment out from her talk show to discuss what Sherri should do to look her very best. She said that Sherri should have “big hair” because “the bigger the hair, the smaller the body” and should avoid flat shoes since heels will make her legs look longer.

Sherri Shepherd Reveals Diet Cheats on Twitter

I’m always saying that people reveal way too much on Twitter and now Sherri Shepherd has proven that celebrities aren’t immune to getting in trouble because of it.

Sherry wants to be swimsuit ready by August 6, 2009 so that she can show off her slimmed down summer body on The View.

If you follow Sherry on Twitter, you will know that, over this past weekend, she "messed up a little last night … had fried calamari and fried catfish – gotta stay away from the soul food! Back on track today – gym at 3 pm."

Naturally, her personal trainer spotted her junk food update prompting Sherry to later tweet: "Ain’t this a blip! I was planning on fibbing 2 my trainer & nutritional coach about what I ate this weekend – but they follow me."

Yesterday on the show, Sherry shared the experience with the audience and her fellow co-hosts: "this weekend, I was out in L.A., and I’m tweeting about [how] I had fried calamari and I had some buffalo wings and I just went totally off my diet. And it was great! I did not know that my nutritional coach and my trainer follow me."

She seems to have learned her lesson about her diet AND about Twitter: "[I] ordered chicken legs and thighs … the evil one (my trainer) made me take the skin off. Had a side of steamed veggies. Gave in w/diet Pepsi… You just assume when you tweet that you’re tweeting to people far away, not the person – your neighbor across the hall. I wish my coach would have not tweeted because she’s coming here tomorrow to get on me about what I ate."

2009 Daytime Emmy Award Nominees Announced!

At last, the nominees for this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards have been announced! Of course, some of our favorite talk shows and talk show hosts have been nominated so here is a list of some of the categories and nominations.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show has by far taken the crown for the most amount of nominations this year with over six of them! Rachael Ray and Dr. Phil got a good amount as well. Who are you rooting for? I have no idea who’s going to win for Outstanding Talk Show. It’s quite a close match, so it should be interesting to see who takes it!

This year Vanessa Williams will be hosting the awards show! Make sure to catch the event on August 30th at 8 pm E.T on the CW Network!

Sherri Shepherd at “Most Influential” Event

Sherri Shepherd looked beautiful as she attended Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2009 event at the Lincoln Center in New York City. The View host looks like she’s got a bag filled with goodies! I wonder what’s in it!?

Sherri Shepherd is Heading to WWE

There’s a title I never thought I’d be typing! Apparently, Sherri Shepherd is a big fan of MVP, the massive WWE wrestler. She actually said that he’s "goooorgeous." She took it a step further on The View and said to her co-hosts: "I don’t know if he’s married or single but i’m going to find out. I want to be Mrs. MVP."

The public declaration of her affection seems to have paid off. She’s going to be making a special appearance on "WWE Friday Night Smackdown" on May 1, 2009 and the event is supposed to end with Sherri "getting in the corner with WWE Superstar MVP."

Uh… I don’t even know what to say about that but I will definitely try to tune in. Who knows what will happen?

The View Spoofed on Saturday Night Live

This weekend, Saturday Night Live welcomed back former cast member, Tracy Morgan and, overall, it was a pretty funny episode. I had gotten used to seeing the show poke fun at the Today show (see two skits here and here) and was pleasantly surprised to see them spoofing The View. Tracy portrayed Sherri Shepherd who didn’t seem to know what anything was about (at one point, she claimed to not know what “research” meant). Of course, they had Kristen Wiig do a very annoying impersonation of Elisabeth Hasselbeck which was actually pretty funny.

In case this skit brought back memories, I should mention that this isn’t the first time The View was parodied by SNL. Watch a previous skit here!

The View Talks About Rush Limbaugh and Rihanna Reuniting with Chris Brown

Yesterday on their “Hot Topics” segment, the ladies on The View started their discussion by talking about the controversial comments made by radio talk show host, Rush Limbaugh, who has actually said that he wants President Barack Obama to fail. Was Rush out of line to make those comments? Watch this video and decide for yourself.

Another thing that they talked about are the rumors that Rihanna has taken her boyfriend, Chris Brown, back after he allegedly assaulted her. Specifically, they mentioned that Rihanna’s father, Ronald Fenty, has decided to stand behind any decision she makes. I have to admit that I’ve been bothered by her choice to even go near Chris Brown. I think he should be charged to the fullest extent of the law. Do you agree?
