Rosie O’Donnell Tells All on Tyra Banks Show

February 25, 2009 by Jeanne

Tune in February 26th and 27th for a two-part experience when Rosie O’Donnell visits the Tyra Banks Show.  We all know that Tyra isn’t shy when asking questions about anything so I’m sure it’s going to be crazy!  In addition to talking about her life, Rosie will also tell Tyra about her new Lifetime movie America in which Rosie plays a psychiatrist at a youth treatment center who helps a biracial boy named America to come to terms with his life.  Sounds interesting!  It airs on February 28th and March 1st and 3rd.rosie o'donnell on Tyra showHere are some quotes that I received from the show to share with you:

On drinking:  “I stopped drinking on December 1st. It has not been easy…On November 29th, I was with my son, who is now 13, and I said to him, ‘Park, can you get me a beer?’ And he said, ‘No I don’t want to.’ And I said, ‘Really why not?’ And he says, ‘Because you know what, I think you drink too much beer…Lately I think it’s too much.’ I said, ‘You know when I was a kid, when I was 22, I stopped drinking for like eight years.’  He goes, ‘Well maybe you should do that again.’ I go, ‘Well honey what happens if I can’t do that?’ He say, ‘There’s a drunk club, I forget what it’s called, but you have to like be really drunk to get in, I don’t know if they’d let you in, but you could ask them for tips.’”

On Madonna: “Madonna. She’s the most famous person period, I think. She’s just moved back to New York with her kids so that’s great. So well get to be able to hang out more. We have kids the same age.”

“I had just seen “Truth or Dare” and she was the first woman that I met who had a similar situation to me. My mom died when I was a kid as did hers and I’m named after my mom as is she and I don’t know anyone else who has gone to their mothers grave and seen their own name.”

“She’s [Madonna] great, she’s a lot like a big sister. When I started having my hormone things, I’m like, ‘What the hell is going on?’ send, she’s like, ‘Get the cream’ send.”

On menopause:  “Well let me tell you one thing Tyra, I am about to be 47 next month and Aunt Flow has not shown up for nine months.  The worst thing is I am like ending that whole cycle and my daughter who is 11, is beginning the cycle. So the two hormones in the house, it’s a lot going on.”

“It started for me at 41…I would be in the bed and I would wake up and the sheets would be soaking wet, not damp, soaking wet… I thought, ‘Oh Vivi crawled in here last night and maybe she wet.’ So I would throw the covers off and turn to look and there’s no Vivi, it’s just Kelli and then I’m like, ‘Kelli is incontinent!’ And then I realized, no it’s me.”

“I would literally stand naked in the winter on my balcony in December in the middle of the night just to get cool.”

"Rosie Live" Cancelled After Just One Show

December 1, 2008 by Jeanne

Rosie Live OUCH!!!!  I had hoped that Rosie O’Donnell’s return to television, Rosie Live, was going to be triumphant but it fell flat after getting bad reviews and few viewers last week.  It wasn’t from a lack of star power, that’s for sure, since she had a plethora of celebrities including Alec Baldwin, Liza Minnelli, Alanis Morissette and a quick cameo from Clay Aiken.  Despite the effort, the show has been yanked from NBC’s lineup.

What turned people off?  Poorly written skits, bad jokes and blatant placement of sponsor products.

Rosie, who I neither hate or love, has come out, guns blazing several times in the past and has pointed the finger at others when it comes to her misfortunes but, I wonder, if this recent flop will motivate her to be more introspective.  At some point, she’s got to look at all that negativity, right?  There have been many times when I’ve agreed with her argument and view of things but I feel like she ruins it by getting so nasty and negative.  It just turns me off and I think it’s gotten to many others now too.  It’s hard to remember the nice person who used to host her talk show Rosie.  I know she said that she needed to be her own person and, after leaving that show, she came out of the closet as a lesbian but being gay doesn’t mean you have to be harsh and angry and, well, since liberating her sexual identity, it seems that’s all she is.

I hope she can continue to be the progressive, intelligent woman she wants to be but learns to either master her ire or learn to fake it.  It’s show business after all - can’t she even act happy and nice?

Rosie O’Donnell: "I Do Care About Barbara"

November 24, 2008 by Jeanne

This morning on the Today show, Rosie O’Donnell talked to Meredith Vieira (with whom she has something in common - they both were moderators on The View) about her famous feuds with former co-hosts, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Barbara Walters.  Meredith asks Rosie about her comments to reporters last week where she implied that the women on The View are not really friends off the set.  Of course, Barbara responded to these allegations by referring to Rosie as "lady" and told her to "get on with [her] life."  Rosie said that despite everything, she respects Barbara and cares about her.

She also talked about her upcoming primetime variety show, Rosie Live, which I think looks interesting.  She describes it as a "jam-packed show" where she will have a 2 minute monologue at the beginning of the hour.

Rosie O’Donnell Variety Show Commercials

November 21, 2008 by Jeanne

rosie o'donnell Have you seen any of the commercials for Rosie O’Donnell’s new variety show, Rosie Live?  They almost remind me of the ads for the Bonnie Hunt Show (same kind of humor, you know?).  Anyway, I am definitely going to give it a shot.

Here’s the first promo which features Rosie at a press conference where people don’t seem to remember who she is (come on!).  At the end, she mentions that she used to have a talk show and someone says "Oprah?" and she says no and then someone says "Ellen?" and she says "you’re gettin’ closer."  Ha ha!

In this second ad, Rosie poses as a security guard who is approached by a little girl named Sally, who has some questions about the show.  Here is a bit of the dialogue:

Sally - "Will Rosie tell off a famous billionaire"
Rosie - "Oh little Sally, he’s not a billionaire."

I’m guessing that is in reference to Rosie’s feud with Donald Trump.

Sally - "Will Rosie yell at a skinny little Republican?"
Rosie - "No, no Sally.  She did that for almost a year."

Clearly, they are talking about Rosie’s frequent arguments with Elisabeth Hasselbeck from her days on The View.

Ripa Confronts O’Donnell About Homophobia

June 20, 2008 by Jeanne

American Idol star, Clay Aiken, was a guest-host on Live with Regis and Kelly once and, after he felt he couldn’t get a word in edge-wise, he actually reached over and put his hand over Kelly Ripa’s mouth.  Kelly was not pleased with his actions and said “I don’t know where that hand has been.”  Rosie O’Donnell, who was the moderator on The View at that time, said that Kelly’s comment seemed homophobic.  I didn’t agree with Rosie at all on that one (especially since Clay has never said he was gay -she’s just assuming).  To me, Kelly seemed germophobic (as I would be) and it’s just not very respectful to do that to someone regardless of how they are acting.

Kelly decided to call Rosie on live television and defend herself against the accusations.  Here’s the video:

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Talks About Rosie

June 18, 2008 by Jeanne

image The View co-host, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, was on Fox News earlier today where she was asked about the situation with Rosie O’Donnell

She said that things were not always that bad and that they had a good working relationship but wishes there was more closure to the matter (she feels things just ended badly).  She said that, since Rosie left the show, they have sent each other emails but that they certainly are not friends.  Watch the segment here:

Rosie O’Donnell Says She’ll Wait to Remarry Kelli

June 9, 2008 by Jeanne

rosie_o'donnell_nc

It’s being reported that former member of The View, Rosie O’Donnell, says even though gay marriage has been legalized in California, she’d much prefer to wait to remarry her girlfriend, Kelli Carpenter.

While others, such as Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are jumping at the opportunity of marriage, Rosie has concluded that it’d be better to wait until gay marriage is legalized nationally.

O’Donnell said that she and Kelli are “going to wait until it’s legal everywhere, because otherwise, I said to Kelli, ‘we’ll be going around touring the country on the marriage tour every state by state’. Once it gets to be at the federal level, once every state recognizes the marriages of every other state, I think that’ll be the time we would do it.”

She was later asked if she thought the time would come soon where gays and lesbians could marry. She replied saying, “Yes. The same way it was illegal for black and white people to marry at one point and people couldn’t conceive of that ever being different, I do think that two consenting, law-abiding adults who want to share their life together should be allowed to do that,” she said.

What do you think? Should Rosie and Kelli wait until gay marriage is legal nation wide, or should she take the opportunity now?

Rosie O’Donnell Talks About Abuse Allegations

April 12, 2008 by Jeanne

Do you believe that Rosie O’Donnell is an abusive parent?  The Globe published a picture of Rosie grabbing the arm of her 12-year-old son.  She blogged about it on her site rosie.com and even asked her partner, Kelly, what she thought.  Here’s the clip:

Rosie O’Donnell’s American Idol Cruise Offer

March 8, 2008 by Jeanne

Rosie O’Donnell has extended an offer to the recently eliminated, openly gay American Idol hopeful, Danny Noriega. She and her family are getting ready to go on a gay family cruise and she has asked Danny (and a friend) to join them.  I wonder if he’ll go!
