At last, the nominees for this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards have been announced! Of course, some of our favorite talk shows and talk show hosts zumaredwestphotos204325-20090328-mnn-f44have been nominated so here is a list of some of the categories and nominations.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show has by far taken the crown for the most amount of nominations this year with over six of them! Rachael Ray and Dr. Phil got a good amount as well. Who are you rooting for? I have no idea who’s going to win for Outstanding Talk Show. It’s quite a close match, so it should be interesting to see who takes it!

Dr. Phil, Wife and Son Attend “Red Tie Affair”

March 30, 2009 by Jeanne

Talk show host, Dr. Phil McGraw, along with his wife, Robyn, and eldest son, Jay, attended the American Red Cross of Santa Monica’s “Red Tie Affair” which was held at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel.  Guests were asked to wear red as part of their ensemble and it looks like the three of them got it right!  They look really good and I think Robyn looks fantastic in that dress!

American Red Cross Of Santa Monica Red Tie Affair

The event honored individuals who have shown courage and a lack of selfishness.  Amazingly, Jay was recognized for his efforts as the executive producer of the new show The Doctors because the show “it inspires, motivates, and educates people everywhere not just once a week, but every single week day.”

Dr. Phil and Wife Sued Over Skin Cream

March 16, 2009 by Jeanne

When I first read on TMZ that Dr. Phil and his wife, Robin, were being sued phlphotos136664-Phil-McGrawby a skin care company, I couldn’t understand the connection but, after  reading some of the details, I can see what happened.

Apparently, the couple have been named in a $4 million lawsuit stemming from when Robin allegedly promised Miracle Hydrate skin company that she’d feature their creams and lotions on Dr. Phil but, obviously, that never happened.

What’s the big deal?  The company claims that they spent $650,000 “gearing up for the wave of sales they expected to follow” and are now demanding millions of dollars in lost profits.

What I would like to know is if they gave Robin a lifetime supply of the product or something because there seems to be something missing from this story to me.  I will keep my eyes open for updates.

Dr. Phil Gives Letterman Parenting Advice

March 5, 2009 by Jeanne

Dr. Phil stopped by the Letterman Show last night where they talked about a number of things, including children and parenting.  Of course, Letterman had some crazy things to say.

Dr. Phil McGraw arrives outside the Ed Sullivan Theater for his appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman

Dr. Phil was talking about people who put risqué pictures of themselves on the internet from those shots where people are barely dressed to those involving partying and alcohol.  He said that, as parents, we need to make sure our children understand the consequences of putting stuff like that on the internet since colleges/universities and future employers may Google their name and find these things which, of course, can prevent them from being admitted into certain schools or from getting that job.  Dr. Phil went on to explain that his two sons are now adults so he escaped having to deal with these new technology-related issues that parents are now facing.  Letterman, whose son is a preschooler, said that he doesn’t worry about it since he’ll “be dead” by the time his son is old enough to be taking those types of pictures of himself since he had his child late in life.  The audience cracked up and, for a moment, it looked like Dr. Phil was at a loss for words.  Watch the clip:

Dr Phil and Robin McGraw Don’t Consider Divorce an Option

October 7, 2008 by Jeanne

Prince's Book Party - Arrivals

Dr. Phil and his wife, Robin, told the Ladies Home Journal that they do not consider divorce to be an option for them, dispelling rumors that the couple is on the outs.  I have to agree (and I am a remarried person so I’d like to think that I speak from some experience) that as soon as you think of divorce as a possible solution, it becomes more and more difficult to weigh the other options when things get rough.

The lengthy interview revealed many things about their relationship (for example, she used to try pouting as a means of letting him know that something was bothering her - it didn’t work).  I found one of the things Robin said particularly helpful - she said that when she found out she was pregnant, they committed to maintaining their relationship as a couple rather than being redefined as just “parents.”  What I found so valuable was that she said that, now that her boys have grown up and moved on, all the effort they put into their marriage has paid off.  So many couples lose each other during the child-rearing years and when the kids move out, they find they suddenly have nothing in common.  It’s an important lesson.  I have tried to do this in my own relationship but, after reading this reminder, I’m going to try even harder.

Dr Phil - "Is This Marriage Really Over?"

May 8, 2008 by Jeanne

DR. PHIL MCGRAWOn today’s Dr Phil, he sat down with a couple who seemed to have it all.  A nice home, three healthy sons and more but their lives were shattered when it turned out that Shani was cheating with her friend’s husband.  Her husband, Jason, doesn’t believe it’s the end of the world and wants to save the marriage.

Shani used to say to him “you’re going to lose me” because she started to feel like she couldn’t handle being a full-time mother and running her own business.  After she started having an affair, she even left her son’s birthday party to be with him.  She calls the other man, Greg, her “boyfriend.”

She has moved out and her boyfriend has left his wife and filed for divorce.  Shani’s sister is furious that she has done this to her family.

Jason regrets it every day that he didn’t listen to her when she said she was feeling neglected and unfulfilled.  He says that they have been together for 13 years and he doesn’t want his children to grow up in a “broken home.”

Dr Phil asks Shani how she plans to explain the reasons why their family fell apart.  He confronts her about the selfishness of her decisions and she says that she doesn’t love Jason and she doesn’t think she can keep up the facade.  Dr Phil pointed out that she had not ended the relationship with her husband and she’s comparing her husband and her regular married life to these weekend trysts at the lake which are nothing like reality.  He asks her if it’s fair and she has to acknowledge that it isn’t.

Dr. Phil on Tonight Show with Jay Leno

April 30, 2008 by Jeanne

imageDr. Phil was on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night where he talked about the polygamist sect that was raided in his home state of Texas.  He gave some background information on it and they talked about why people join the group (it was kind of funny!).

I was surprised that almost the whole interview was all about polygamy and how tax dollars go to supporting the practice.  Watch the interview:

Dr Phil Bails Out Teen Charged With Beating

April 13, 2008 by Jeanne

drphil Wow!  The Dr Phil show sure does swoop down into big news stories pretty quickly, huh?  Some of his employees went down to central Florida and posted bail for Mercades Nichols who is one of the eight teenagers charged with participating in a videotaped beating of another teen.  However, this wasn’t an approved course of action, I’m gathering.

“We have helped guests and potential guests in the past when they need financial assistance to come on the show - assisting with clothing allowance, lost wages, accommodations, travel and necessities,” Terri Corigliano wrote (she’s a spokeswoman for Dr Phil). “In this case, certain staff members went beyond our guidelines (re the bail being paid).”

“These staff members have been spoken to and our policies reiterated. In addition, we have decided not to go forward with the story as our guidelines have been compromised.”

The show’s producers were in the process of booking guests for a program about the case and only two of the eight teens remained in custody last night.

These teens range in age from 14 to 18 and are facing kidnapping and misdemeanour battery charges.  Three also face a felony charge of witness tampering. The state attorney’s office says all will be tried as adults.

All I know is that I watched a portion of that video last night and I am horrified, as a parent, about how angry and out of control our kids are becoming.  To read more or view the video, click here!

Oprah and Dr. Phil on Entertainment Tonight

February 9, 2008 by Jeanne

image Oprah Winfrey and Phil McGraw are celebrating their 10th year of knowing each other.  They met a decade ago when Oprah was sued by Texas cattlemen who didn’t like her comments about mad cow disease.

Oprah will be appearing on the Dr. Phil show on Monday for his 1000th episode.  Should be great!

Dr. Phil on The View - Video

January 31, 2008 by Jeanne

imageDr. Phil continued to make his rounds through the talk show circuit as he’s been continually questioned about his involvement with Britney Spears.  The ironic thing this morning was that Britney was hospitalized again overnight which made the discussion fresh and full of new questions.  He was very careful, I noticed, in his wording and it was an interesting interview.
