Elisabeth Hasselbeck Sued Over Book Idea
June 23, 2009 by Jeanne
Elisabeth Hasselbeck is being sued over her book The G-Free Diet: A Gluten-Free Survival Guide. The
View co-host released the book after being diagnosed with celiac disease which is an autoimmune disorder linked to gluten proteins (like the ones you’d find in wheat, barley and rye). Unfortunately, it could be that Elisabeth’s experience wasn’t her only source of inspiration for writing the book.
According to the Boston Herald, a woman named Susan Hassett sent Hasselbeck a copy of her own self-published work, Living with Celiac Disease, along with “a homemade cooking video, a personal note, a newspaper article and a business card.”
So far, Elisabeth hasn’t responded to the allegations but I would like to know just how similar the books are. This health-related stuff can be so similar since, unless the author has stumbled upon some huge breakthrough, it’s all just a variation on what researchers have discovered. I hope Elisabeth didn’t steal from that woman but I guess it will be up to a court of law to decide.

Oprah Treats Her Staff to Mediterranean Cruise
Oprah Winfrey is indeed a luxurious woman so it’s only natural that she thank people in luxurious ways. The staff of The Oprah Winfrey Show are being treated by the well-respected talk show host to a Mediterranean cruise! Not only that, but the staff will be permitted to bring some of their family members with them.
They will all be departing today and will tour Spain, Italy, Turkey, Greece and Malta. All expenses will be paid by Oprah, which includes transportation, food, drinks and activities. Apparently, the cost of this cruise ship ride for one person is $5,400! In 2005, she paid all the expenses so that her staff could get away for a little while in the tropical island of Hawaii.
Wow! I’m sure they are quite thankful for such generosity. There is no doubt in my mind that it is well deserved, though. It can’t be easy working for Oprah Winfrey!

Joy Behar Gets Her Own Talk Show
The New York Times is reporting that Joy Behar is getting her own talk show. I should have known she was being prepped for something with all of those late-night co-hosting gigs she’s been doing. ![]()
The Joy Behar Show will be broadcast on HLN which some people consider the more opinionated sister channel of the (mostly) fact-based, CNN. She will be taking the 9pm slot from Lou Dobbs as a repeat of his “Lou Dobbs Tonight” will be discontinued.
In case you are wondering (as I was), she will continue her hosting duties on The View but will be working a double shift (hey, it’s worked for Meredith Vieira, Regis Philbin and even Rachael Ray). I think that she could really handle her own show and I’m excited for her. I think she’s intelligent, funny and has a very straightforward and honest method of approaching topics.
There is no firm date yet, though it is expected to appear in HLN’s fall lineup.

Rachael Ray Show Renewed Through 2012
June 8, 2009 by Jeanne
After improving 29% since last May, the Rachael Ray Show has been renewed through the 2011-2012 season which is a big deal in this economy. So many shows are dealing with cutbacks and cancellations so the young chef should be more than happy with this news.
I read in the Broadcasting and Cable article that many recognize what a valuable asset Rachael can be. Not only is her show great but she makes a real effort to work with local stations and, of course, she cultivates advertising partnerships by “integrating them seamlessly into the show.” It helps create revenue which makes everyone happy! I really agree with that state
Staples, which did home makeovers for guests; Sears’ Kenmore Elite appliances, which sponsored “Rach to the Rescue” segments; and Uncle Ben’s Rice, which sponsored “Hey, Can You Cook?” segments, some of which featured contestants using the company’s products. The Egg Board, Walmart and Sara Lee also have done integrations on the show.
Rachael Ray is especially appealing to viewers in this challenged economy because “she’s centered in value,” Wood says, with the show featuring many segments on how to cook, decorate or dress for less. “Value has always been important to us since day one. That’s been a part of the show we’ve never strayed from.”

Ellen DeGeneres Turns Away 500 Fans From No Doubt Show?
May 20, 2009 by Jeanne
According to reports made by Perez Hilton, several of his readers are claiming that they were turned away from seeing rock group No Doubt performing outdoors. The group performed yesterday for an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.![]()
The fans had been waiting for 7 hours in the sun and each of them had reserved tickets to the show. Despite the fact that they had reserved tickets, they were denied access due to a major miscount on the show’s part. They over counted 500 people attending the event so those 500 fans left the Warner Bros lot disappointed and terribly unsatisfied.
One woman even claims that she was able to squeeze in behind the stage, but even that turned out to be horrendous. "We had no speakers to hear anything! My nose started bleeding and NO ONE even bothered to see if I was ok. The security guy just gave me a napkin. Two other girls fainted because of the heat."
After all they’d reportedly been through, the fans were then told to call back next season for tickets.
That is just awful!! Some of the fans had even travelled from far away to see No Doubt perform. I don’t understand how you can over count by 500. That is insanity!

Aisha Tyler Getting New Talk Show
The very beautiful actress, Aisha Tyler, has been tapped to bring a new talk show to the airwaves (no production or premiere dates have been released so far).
I recently enjoyed watching her win the Celebrity Jeopardy Tournament (they’ve really shortened that down now- it only lasts one episode!) so I know that she will bring some intelligent issues to the discussions.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Aisha Tyler Show (to be broadcast on ABC) will be a “a hybrid that will incorporate aspects of a traditional talk show with comedic political commentary, produced comedy segments and other elements usually associated with late-night shows.”
That could be very interesting because I really do like some aspects of the late-night talk show better than those in the daytime so I’m intrigued about what this show will look like.
She’s also trying to reach a younger audience and will use social media tools like Facebook and Twitter to communicate with her fans.
The rumors suggest that Tyler could fit alongside powerhouses like All My Children, One Life to Live and General Hospital and I think that could work. When you bring these new talk shows to a network, I think placing them properly in the schedule is the most important thing. A lot of talk shows don’t utilize that noon-hour slot but I’ll tell you that I got hooked on Montel that way because I’d be sitting there while my kids had their lunch. I guess we’ll have to wait and see where she really ends up.

Tyra Banks Stalker Says They Are “Friends”
The man who has been allegedly stalking talk show host, Tyra Banks, claims that the charges against him are baseless since the two of them are actually friends. The evidence against him must be compelling, though, since even his legal team could only describe him as "an overzealous fan who had hoped to be in Banks’ studio audience."
Brady Green, 37, reported to Manhattan Criminal Court last Friday to face charges of stalking, harassment and criminal trespass. Some of the things he’s accused of include telling a Tyra show employee that he was going to slit their throat for failing to divulge Tyra’s whereabouts. He sent her flowers with a note that said "when I see you, I love you".
It was his words to the police, however, that gave me the chills: "I know her. She knows me. We’re good friends," claiming the two "had a thing together. I sent her flowers. I sent her cards. Should I plead no contest? I’ve got satellites watching me and recording us."
So far, Green has pled not guilty to the charges but is due back in court on April 27, 2009.

Eliot Spitzer Talks About Prostitution Scandal
April 6, 2009 by Jeanne
Disgraced former New York governor, Eliot Spitzer, was on the Today show this morning for an exclusive interview with Matt Lauer. He discussed the
prostitution scandal that forced him to resign as governor in March 2008. He had been very quiet after that but he’s back in the spotlight again because he is speaking out about the current economic crisis.
Naturally, Matt really dug in to the issues we all wanted to hear about and Spitzer had some honest answers. I really respect the fact that he didn’t try to make excuses for his actions. Here are some quotes:
“This is something that has caused excruciating pain to [my wife] and my daughters,” the 49-year-old Spitzer said. “It’s something that I carry with me every day because of the pain I’ve caused. And so I’ve tried to balance: The obligation to speak is vast but also the pain to my family has been enormous.”
“Like most of us I suppose, I’ve had flaws,” he told Lauer. “I’ve tried to think about it deeply, address it. There are no excuses. I have tried to address these gremlins; confront them. What I did was an egregious violation of trust to my family, to my colleagues, to the state, and I’ve paid a price and appropriately so.”
There is SO much more to hear so, if you’re interested, check out the video from the interview.
