Oprah’s Book Club: "A New Earth" Selling At Record Pace!
March 3, 2008 by Jeanne
Oprah Winfrey chose Eckhart Tolle’s book, “A New Earth” for her book club and the book is doing exceedingly well (even by Oprah Book Club Standards)! So far, since Wednesday, about 3.5 million copies of the spiritual self-help guide have been shipped. Amazon lists it as a best-seller and it is the fastest-selling pick ever at Barnes & Noble Inc.
There’s been so much going on for me that I haven’t had the time but I guess I should pick up a copy. Buy yours now!
GMA Lists Hottest Toys of 2008!
February 23, 2008 by Jeanne
Good Morning America covered the annual Toy Fair in New York City which kick-starts the new year, unveiling the most amazing toys! Here’s a look at three of the featured toys! Click here to learn more about the 2008 Toy Fair.
Playskool goes prehistoric with Kota the Triceratops dinosaur. Measuring over 40 inches tall, the toy features sensors in nine areas on his body (it is kind of big, though, isn’t it? Could make storage a bit of a hassle). Kota will react to touch by moving his head, tail and horns. Kids can also press a button on the riding handle to play adventure-themed songs. Six D batteries are required but not included. Watch a video and learn more about Kota.
Approximate Retail Price: $300; Ages 3 years & up; Available: Fall 2008
Just in time for the new “Hulk” movie starring Edward Norton, these fun gloves will be a smash hit with kids. The best part? These giant green foam hands also make crime-fighting sound effects (and the worst part will be how annoying the “awesome” sound effects become, lol). One size fits all.
Approximate Retail Price: $19.99; Ages 3 & up; Available: May 3, 2008
Remote Control Wallcrawler Spiderman
This fall, Spiderman will scale walls everywhere with the Wallcrawler. Amazing motorized vacuum-pump technology allows Spidey to literally crawl up and down walls at your command: an infrared controller that attaches to the wrist allows kids (and adults) to control the wall-crawlin fun!
Approximate Retail Price: $49.99; Ages: 5 & up; Available: Fall 2008
On Tyra: Lead Poisoning Information
January 25, 2008 by Jeanne
Earlier this month, Tyra talked about the dangers of lead poisoning. She also used a special kit that, when rubbed on objects, turns red if it contains lead. Here’s the information from Tyra’s site about the show:
310,000 kids are poisoned every year in the U.S. by lead. Although its effects are limited on healthy adults, it can be deadly for children and pregnant women and children exposed to lead can be poisoned irreversibly for the rest of their lives causing such disorders as ADD, learning disabilities, aggressive behavior, etc. For more information on children and lead, including recalls, visit www.leadsafe.org.

Today Show’s 7 Cool Gadgets for Travellers
January 7, 2008 by Jeanne
The Today show created a list of seven gadgets that frequent travellers can enjoy. I don’t travel that much but I still thought they were good items to have.
Wildcharger ($89.99) - Wirelessly charge multiple cell phones on this great charging pad (pictured above)! It charges just as fast as a wall plug (even with Mp3 phones!). Once your cell phone is resting on the thin, flat pad, it instantly starts charging. For more information, click here!
Driving Alert Master ($19.95) - This lightweight and ergonomic device slides over the top of your ear (like a wireless headset) and sounds an alarm if you fall asleep and your head slumps forward. Visit this site for more info!

Oprah’s Tips to Conquering Morning Madness
August 15, 2007 by Jeanne

With Back-to-School time just around the corner, Oprah has given some tips for how to make mornings run more smoothly.
- Prepack lunches the night before
- Prepare coffee machine the night and simply turn it on in the morning
- Prearrange and iron clothing the night before
- Coordinate bathroom schedules
- Have easy breakfast food on hand (even “portable” ones like breakfast bars)
- Create and “Inbox/Outbox” system to deal with school papers and homework
- Use a timer to limit time wasted if you tend to linger when you eat or shower
- Have a schedule for carpool and/or confirm rides the night before
- Prepack backpacks, purses and briefcases the night before
- Establish rules and routines to prevent morning temper tantrums
- Ignore chores in the morning - worry about it when you get home
All in all, I think these are good guidelines. I try to do most of them but I find the inbox/outbox system to be the most difficult to maintain consistently.

The Early Show had a segment about decorating your dorm room. I”m past my college dorm days but I think this could even worse for someone wanted to decorate a small 1 bedroom apartment or something. I actually think the ideas weren’t half bad!

The Neti Pot - As Seen on Oprah

Did anyone watch the episode of Oprah when she had Dr. Oz on and he talked about the Neti pot? The Neti pot looks a bit like a “genie’s lamp” and you fill it with water to clean out your sinuses. It’s a bit tricky and a sensation to get used to but I bought one about a month ago and I love it! I really do.
First of all, sales for the Neti pot went through the roof after that Oprah episode. Here are some tidbits from Oprah’s site about the “magical” cleanser:
It may look like a watering can or a genie bottle, but a neti pot—or “nose bidet”—may actually be the answer to your sinus woes. For thousands of years, Dr. Oz says people have been using similar devices to wash out their noses.
By pouring warm water from the neti pot into your nose, you can stimulate your sinuses and help clear out mucus. If the fluid builds up in your sinuses and causes pressure, you will experience pain, Dr. Oz says. This condition is known as sinusitis—inflammation of the sinuses.
“A lot of folks that have allergies, who have sinusitis, that have conditions that we treat with medications are equally well treated by actually washing the areas of your body,” he says. “When you think about it … you wash your underarms. You have bidets. Why wouldn’t you wash a pretty important part of your body, your sinuses, in the same fashion?”
