Whoopi Goldberg Gets Controversial by Defending Polanski
October 1, 2009 by Jeanne
Whoopi Goldberg has caused some controversy after she defended Roman Polanski after he was arrested on Saturday. The filmmaker was arrested in Switzerland after he reportedly had sexual relations with a 13-year-old girl and fled the country in 1978.
Whoopi said on The View, "It was something else but I don’t believe it was rape-rape.”
She later said, "We’re a different kind of society, we see things differently. Would I want my 14 year old having sex? Not necessarily, no."
Co-host Sherri Shepherd was in huge disagreement with Whoopi saying that no matter what, it was statutory rape and that it was wrong. Joy Behar also showed her disagreement towards Whoopi’s comments. Obviously, this is a very sensitive topic, but in my opinion, either way you look at it, having sex with a child is just plain wrong. What do you guys think?
