I am going to have to admit something.  I have never had an omelet.  I know.  It’s pretty shocking to most of my friends.  It’s not that I don’t like eggs, it’s just that I really like mine fried or scrambled.  Making an omelet takes some finesse and I”m not ashamed to say that I’ve been a little intimidated by it.

Watching this segment on the Today show really took some of the guesswork out of it so I’m thinking about giving it a try.  With the weather getting cooler, I’d like to learn how to make something nice and warm for breakfast. 

The omelets looked really easy to make.  I know that getting them out of the pan in one piece might take a little practice but it looks totally worth it!

On today’s episode of the Tyra Banks Show, the daytime talk show host will be sampling food from New York City’s best street vendors.  Brave woman!  I’m not sure I would be grabbing food from there.  Then again, she does seem to make it look more appealing and will be showing her audience how to eat high-class food for low prices.

I love chicken.  I have the occasional red meat but poultry is definitely the staple meat in my house.  Of course, it can get a tad boring so I was interested in the segment on the Today show that demonstrated some great suggestions for spicing up chicken recipes!

They prepared a very quick spicy chicken dinner that included chili powder, coriander, black pepper, cumin and cinnamon.  The spices were mixed with olive oil to create a paste that was brushed over the chicken.  So much easier than marinating!

In an effort to help uninsured people living in Houston, Texas, a free health clinic was set up and the response has been overwhelming.   Nearly 2,000 people showed up on Saturday where they were given free checkups, medical tests and minor procedures performed by 700 volunteers including Dr. Mehmet Oz.  He will be airing some parts of the experience on his talk show in October.

Why Houston?  Texas has the nation’s highest uninsured rate.  I hope that this will serve as an example for other cities where people desperately need help.  I realize that it takes resources to put something like this together but just because it’s difficult doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try.  People are dying.  This healthcare situation is absolutely serious.

I love Paula Deen.  I think there’s something so down-to-earth and fun about her but, of course, her food looks really good as well. 

Now she’s come out with a book called Paula Deen’s Cookbook for the Lunchbox Set so that she can offer some great meal ideas for kids.  I think it’s great because we adults sometimes are so rushed that we have to grab something quick but children usually don’t have that luxury.  Plus, it’s so much better to plan ahead so that they can have something nutritious to eat.

With Paula on the Today show, some kids made a chocolate chip Bundt cake and a cheeseburger casserole.  There are some other good suggestions so check out the segment:

It’s Sunday and a lot of families like to enjoy a meal together.  There are some standard dishes but Today show contributor, Giada De Laurentiis, provided some fresh ideas for a delicious dinner and I have to say that I am definitely going to try this.

Giada used one of my favorite meats – turkey.  She explained that so many people save turkey for the holidays but it can be a great part of a meal any time of the year.  She created an Osso Bucco by frying it in a pan and making a tasty looking sauce to serve with the meat.

I don’t know if you have already seen this clip but things got pretty nasty between daytime talk show host, Wendy Williams, and her guest, Omarosa, who she had welcomed to the show to promote her book The Bitch Switch.  When Wendy mentioned that she wouldn’t use Omarosa’s methods to secure a job, things took a turn for the worse with the women exchanging insults for the remainder of the interview.  Then, things seemed to get more civil for a time until Omarosa asked Wendy if she had had plastic surgery on her nose.  Wendy denied the accusation and then suggested that Omarosa look into having the lines on her face smoothed out.
