Taylor Swift Performs on Today Show Concert Series

May 29, 2009 by Jeanne

Taylor Swift performed on the Today show’s “Summer Concert Series” this morning and she looked beautiful.  The 19-year-old country superstar performed some of her best songs and I think she did a great job.  Granted, I think her songs are better written than she can actually sing (sorry) but all things considered, it was a nice set of performances.

Taylor Swift Performs On NBCs Today

She talked about her experience since becoming such a big star (she sold out a concert at Madison Square Garden in one minute!).

Watch her sing the cute and romantic song “Love Story” (one of my daughters sang in front of the screen just mouthing the words).

She also sang “You Belong to Me” which has more of an 80s feel to it but it has great infectious lyrics.

When she performed her crowd-favorite “Our Song” the audience happily sang along and I thought it was great.  Can you imagine how flattering that must have been?!

Kelly Ripa Fights Back Over Diet Claims

May 29, 2009 by Jeanne

Kelly Ripa may not have filed suit but she’s definitely threatening a diet company for using her image without permission. kelly ripa guarana pure

E! News is reporting the following: “Kelly’s attorney did not file a lawsuit. A lawsuit was only threatened.  A cease and desist letter was sent on behalf of Kelly.”

Further, her attorney states that Kelly has “never used or received the product” and she had she heard of the products until someone told her about the ads.

Kelly sent a cease and desist letter to the company, asking them to remove her name and image from “all ads, websites and blogs” after the weight-loss firm not only suggested that she endorsed Guaranà but also “took money for orders and failed to deliver the goods.”

David Hyde Pierce Talks Gay Marriage on The View

May 29, 2009 by Jeanne

Frasier actor, David Hyde Pierce, was very open during his visit to The View.  Normally, he’s a fiercely private person so the revelation that he was married last October in a same-sex marriage really surprised me.  He had a reason for divulging this personal information – his outrage over Proposition 8.

Last fall, he married his companion of 25 years, Brian Hargrove, in California and he’s outraged that other gay and lesbian couples are being denied this right.  “Brian and I always kept a low profile. We didn’t hide our lives,” he said. “We got married very quietly last Oct. 24 and thought that was fine, and then suddenly the state of California said, ‘No, it’s not.’ What we thought was sort of a private, personal decision turned out not to be.

He also revealed that he’s become quite active about the cause and has been present at protests and rallies: “I’ve been going because I had the experience of having this private thing suddenly dragged out into the public, and have people I don’t know take a vote,” he said. “It was a very angry-making feeling both in November when it was taken away from me and also this past Tuesday when I was sitting in front of my television wondering, ‘Gee, I hope it’s OK the Supreme Court thinks I’m married.’ Excuse me, it’s none of your business.”

Of the recent Proposition 8 verdict that allows same-sex couples who are already married he said: “We now find out that, legally, we are still married. That’s a mixed thing too,” he admitted. “It’s like, ‘Oh great, we made the cut.’”

Try This Inventive Breakfast Burger

May 28, 2009 by Jeanne

I love burgers but I’ve never thought about having one for breakfast until now.  I guess all of those breakfast sandwiches sold by fast-food restaurants (the ones with sausages, eggs, cheese and yummy biscuits!) could count as a burger of sorts, now that I think about it.

Still, those are sausages but, on the Today show, they actually used ground beef (along with pork, turkey and chicken) as a breakfast food.  For a burger suitable for the morning, they replaced the bun with eggs and pancakes.  I don’t know if I could eat this.  Watch the segment and tell me what you think!

Ellen Reacts to Ruling on Gay Marriage Ban

May 27, 2009 by Jeanne

Yesterday, the California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8 (the ban on gay marriage ban) and I am not surprised to see that Ellen Degeneres and other celebrities are responding in a very public way.80928a1-degeneres-bgr-01

Ellen and her wife, Portia de Rossi, are still legally married under the ruling (they wed last August) but she had the following to say: “I’m sure you heard the Prop 8 news. One day when everyone is treated with full equality, we’ll look back and realize how wrong this was,” Ellen said in a statement to Access Hollywood.

Lance Bass, the openly gay former member of N*SYNC echoed in a written statement: “I can only hope to one day live in a country that grants equal rights, opportunity, and freedom to all citizens.”  For more celeb reactions, visit the Access Hollywood site.

What do you think of the ruling?  Should there be a ban on gay marriage?  Should all Americans have the same civil rights?  Tell me what you think!

Paula Deen Coconut and Lemon Curd Cake

May 27, 2009 by Jeanne

Despite the fact that they usually look really high in calories and fat, I always end up drooling over Paula Deen’s recipes.  They look so delicious and rich (and, of course, bad for you!) but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the occasional splurge…

On the Today show, she created a lemon-flavored coconut cake (get the recipe!) with homemade icing.  She suggested that people in a hurry can use a lemon cake mix but, if time permits, she recommended getting a yellow cake mix and adding fresh lemon flavoring to it.  YUM.  I can already taste it!  I love lemon cake and I love coconut!  Watch the segment!

Today Show Dissects “Jon and Kate” Premiere

May 26, 2009 by Jeanne

Last night was the season premiere of TLC’s hit show Jon and Kate Plus Eight and, if you watched it, you’ll know that there was a LOT of tension.  Not only did Jon and Kate film most of their segments separately, but Jon made it clear that he no longer wanted to live his life through a reality TV program while Kate said that she loves it.  That one statement summed it up for me and made me so disappointed with her.  As a wife and a mother, I know that there are times when I need to give up something in order to focus on my family and, in my opinion, the Gosselins need to take a step back (away from the cameras) and sort some things out.  Sometimes you just have to walk away from it and, as she continuously pointed out in the episode last night that they are constantly being followed by the paparazzi and that she found it “creepy” that they were in her children’s lives but, if she really felt that way, she’d walk away from the limelight.  She said that the attention would never go away and I have to say that the woman is delusional.  I can promise that, if that show was canceled, the world would forget about the Gosselin family pretty quickly.  Does she really think she’s more important that she is?  I think so.

Anyway, on the Today show, they discussed the premiere and what it meant for the family.  One thing that was mentioned was the fact that it seemed the kids have been kept in the dark about things which is probably a mistake.  Watching the show, you could feel the tension and the kids have got to be feeling uneasy (at one point, one of their daughters even told her daddy that she didn’t want him to go away anymore).  This was a really interesting segment since what was said not only applies to the Gosselins but also to any family that is going through a hard time or a divorce.  Check it out:
