Today Show: Healthy Supermarket Choices
January 2, 2009 by Jeanne
Has the economy affected your waistline? I know that this year, I regained 20 of the 54 pounds I had lost in 2007. I worked longer hours, exercised less
and tried to be more frugal with my grocery shopping with the price of food steadily increasing. We are a family of five and eating healthy can really add up.
The Today show provided some tips for how to get tasty and healthy groceries without spending a fortune. The authors of Eat This, Not That: Supermarket Survival Guide followed a family to the grocery store to demonstrate how so many of us make our own choices while shopping and provided some insight (look at labels!) into ways to make smarter decisions:
- Learn the lingo. Be careful and learn what food labels mean.
- Pick items with fewer ingredients listed on the label
- Look high and low on shelves. Eye-level items tend to be less healthy.
