Sarah Palin and Barack Obama’s Family Holiday Updates
December 31, 2008 by Jeanne
Bristol Palin, the teenage daughter of Alaskan governor, Sarah Palin, has given birth to a baby boy a week later than expected. The Today show segment provided a little glimpse into what their life has been like since Sarah Palin lost her bid to become the vice-president as John McCain’s running mate.
They explained that Bristol, and the baby’s father, Levi, have been working on completing their high school diplomas via correspondence courses. Levi dropped out and has been working in a oil field to try to provide for his young family.
President-elect, Barack Obama, was caught shirtless as he vacationed in Hawaii with his wife Michelle and their two daughters. They had a traditional ham and turkey holiday dinner but, being the active family that they are, Barack and Michelle have been spotted working out and taking their girls on outings.

Today Show’s Tips for New Year’s Bubbly!
December 31, 2008 by Jeanne
Leslie Sbrocco, the author of The Simple and Savvy Wine Guide, provided tips and suggestions for tasty New Year’s Eve drinks that won’t hurt your budget!![]()
She put the taste buds of two Today show correspondents to the test. Surprise! They had a hard time picking which champagne was pricier than the other.
Interestingly enough, Leslie was pairing wines with items like popcorn (she actually even created a popcorn bar…), cheese, chocolate and hamburgers.

Another Author Dupes Oprah Winfrey
December 30, 2008 by Jeanne
What is wrong with people? If you write a book and some pieces of it have been fabricated, just come out with it. Don’t try to pretend that this is a
word-for-word account of your own personal journey. And for goodness sake, if your book gets picked up by Oprah Winfrey, come clean. Immediately.
The book, Angel at the Fence: The True Story of a Love That Survived was heralded as “the single greatest love story” Oprah had featured on her show. In fact, it was the basis of two episodes.
The story goes that a man met his future wife as a child in a Nazi concentration camp. She pretended to be a Christian and tossed apples to him over the fence. After the war, Herman Rosenblat and Roma Radzicki were married and have been enjoying wedded bliss for 50 years.
Sounds plausible and wonderful, right? Heck, it’s even got the words “true story” in the title! Unfortunately, Rosenblat was forced to confess that the story was a hoax after scholars and the book’s publisher noticed inaccuracies (there was no fence at Buchenwald, where this was alleged to have taken place).
As a result, the book has been canceled (it was supposed to be released in February 2009) but the movie will still be produced as a fictional tale.
Again, I have to ask – what is wrong with people? How could you capitalize on a story related to the Holocaust and sleep at night knowing you were lying!? I find that absolutely outrageous. What a slap in the face to those who truly suffered in concentration camps!
Now, I’m wondering what Oprah is going to do about this. When James Frey, the author of A Million Little Pieces, confessed to embellishing his story, she had him on the show and scolded him in a way that I actual thought was slightly unnecessary and completely humiliating (the editor of the book actually called Oprah out as a two-faced jerk – ouch!). He didn’t make up the story (like Rosenblat), he just embellished it. Will she give Rosenblat the Frey treatment? Should she?

Katie Couric Finally Finding Success After Leaving Today Show
December 30, 2008 by Jeanne
Katie Couric came on to the scene years ago, replacing Deborah Norville, on the Today show. I remember being in either junior high or high school and not caring much about morning talk shows but I also remember the frenzy that
followed her debut. People really loved this young, fresh-faced co-host who had the biggest smile on television.
Over the years, we’ve all watched her ups and downs as if she was a member of the family. Her husband, Jay, passed away tragically to colon cancer and Katie underwent a colonoscopy on live daytime television to help spread the word about the importance of screening. Then, so many were shocked when she announced her departure from the Today show after she accepted the job as the anchors of CBS Evening News.
She’s been dogged by bad ratings but for the first time since February 2007, she’s had a boost with an average of 7.4 million viewers between December 15-21, 2008. Even though she’s still behind NBC and ABC it’s still something to celebrate. Here is how the evening news race stacks up: NBC “Nightly News,” 10.1 million (6.6, 12); ABC “World News,” 9.2 million (6.1, 11); “CBS Evening News,” 7.4 million (4.9, 9).”

Holidays Are Over – Should You Regift?
December 29, 2008 by Jeanne
We’ve all been talking about it – the economy has been terrible this year and money is tight. I think I heard that many stores experienced some of their lowest sales in history. At a time like this, some people might be wondering if it’s okay to “regift” an item that they received but didn’t want or need.
On the Today show, they talked about how regifting is great for your wallet but is also a “green” way to give this season. I haven’t ever regifted but after watching this segment, I can understand how it can work. Watch it now:
