The View Discusses Gay Marriage, Sex
November 10, 2008 by Jeanne
This morning on The View, they talked a little bit more about Proposition 8 (the bill that could ban gay marriage) and some of the feedback they have received on the topic. Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters talked about a call they received from Ellen Degeneres whose initial fear was that her recent marriage to Portia De Rossi would be annulled. After consulting with legal council, Barbara clarified that the ban will not work retroactively and that those marriages that have already taken place will be honored.
Meanwhile, GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) sent them some information to help separate fact from fiction, which I thought was really important. Unfortunately, Sherri Shepherd was unhappy because the information came from GLAAD only and she wants to hear from the other side (I don’t get that since this was legal information that was provided which is not based on beliefs, religion or sexual orientation. It’s the law!).
They also talked about saving intimacy for marriage and the fact that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon waited until their wedding night to have sex (as Whoopi pointed out, though, they only dated for two months before getting married).
