Oprah Celebrates Election of Barack Obama as American President
Oprah Winfrey was among the 100,000+ supporters of Barack Obama, who gathered at Chicago’s Grant Park to celebrate his victory. Obama, the Democratic senator from Illionois, became the first African-American to be elected as President of the United States of America.
Oprah, who was flanked by best friend, Gayle King, was visibly moved during his address to the crowd (which also included a very emotion Reverend Jesse Jackson).
I’m very happy with the outcome of the election but I’m sure there’s at least one person in the daytime talk show world who is less than thrilled… I wonder what Elisabeth Hasselbeck, a very vocal supporter of John McCain, will say about all this on The View tomorrow.
In the meantime, I’ve found a video of Oprah talking to reporters from Grant Park and she’s exuberant. She said that it feels like anything is possible and I feel the same way. It finally feels like it’s okay to be hopeful and I’m so glad that Oprah stood up for what she believes in and endorsed Obama at a time when people still seemed afraid to have an opinion. I, too, am a woman of color and his victory means so much to me on many levels – it’s not just about race, age, votes or any of that other stuff. It’s about hope. It’s about CHANGE. Can we do it? To quote Obama – “YES, WE CAN!”

Me too! It is 2 days later, and my feet still haven’t touched the ground. Yes we CAN! But our beloved President Elect Barack Obama is going to have to ignore the slings and arrows from the Republican sore loser club, including Rush Limbaugh. This club of nay-sayers needs to get a grip. What would they have him do? Maybe they would like Bush to be one of his advisors… They won’t be happy for one reason or another, no matter who he chooses. But he has the right to choose, and to have his choices respected, and given a chance to work. Barack Obama is a brilliant man, and will not surround himself with dummies. He will surround himself with the best possible minds and hearts at his disposal. Yes we can, and yes we will! Watch out status quo lovers. Change IS coming. Yes it is.
