Hot Topics on "The View" - September 8, 2008

Whoopi Goldberg talked about how great Britney Spears looked last night on the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards and then Joy Behar said she didn’t see it and then asked if “she had a baby on her lap.”  Wow.  Totally uncalled for, in my opinion.  Let the girl move on… I was so happy to see Britney looking so amazing last night so I was glad they mentioned that on The View. 

There was also a hilarious discussion about babies and how people who have plastic surgery aren’t going to resemble their parents. 

They talked about the US Open and the incredible performance of Brett Favre during the NFL season kick off this weekend and the fact that Olympic champion Michael Phelps was “built” to swim.

Somehow, the discussion turned to Sherri Shepherd talking about this male sunbather in NYC’s Central Park who only wears a speedo and how she had to make her son, Jeffrey, look away, lol.  Apparently, Elisabeth Hasselbeck has talked about him in the past and Sherri wanted to let her know that she saw him too.  Too funny!

Elisabeth also brought up that American Idol winner, Jordin Sparks, defended “promise rings” at the VMAs last night after host, Russell Brand, repeatedly made fun of them.  This, of course, led to a discussion about how we should educate our children about sex.  They went back and forth a bit about whether “abstinence-only” is the right thing or if it should be coupled with lessons on “safe sex.”  I think that I was a pretty good kid but people can never know what kinds of issues a young person is dealing with that can lead them to make the wrong decisions about sex.  I became a teen mother and I wish that I knew more and felt more comfortable talking to the adults around me.  I know that Republican Vice President hopeful, Sarah Palin, advocates abstinence but her own teen daughter is pregnant so that clearly doesn’t always work.
