Singer Katy Perry, whose single "I Kissed a Girl" took the music world by storm this summer, was on the Today show where she performed outside of the studio at Rockefeller Center.  Has anyone ever noticed that she kinda looks a bit like Zoe Deschanel (the actress from movies like Elf?).

Kent Whitaker, whose son orchestrated the murders of his mother and brother, will talk about his experience and the book he has written on Oprah. 

The son, Thomas “Bart” Whitaker, was sentenced “to death in a Fort Bend County court last year for his role in the scheme that also sent two other men to prison.”

Can you imagine this type of horror happening in your family?  I’m sure you don’t even want to think about that!  It’s especially awful when it has to do with money.  In this case, Bart wanted to inherit the $1 million family estate so he thought he would kill his parents and brother to get it.  Not the brightest person, is he?

The book, titled Murder by Family, The Incredible True Story of a Son’s Treachery and a Father’s Forgiveness (buy it now!), will be released on September 23, 2008 by Howard Books.  I don’t know if I could read it but it sounds very interesting.

Daytime talk show host and Food Network star, Rachael Ray, was spotted out shopping at the Union Square Farmer’s Market with a member of her audience (trying to find out the story behind that one!).  Rach helped pick some produce with her, paid for it and then gave her advice about cooking it.  It looks like it was a fun shopping trip!

Newly married, Ellen Degeneres, will be working the phonebank during the live telecast of the upcoming Stand Up to Cancer benefit on September 5, 2008.  E! describes it as “the Oscars, the Emmys and the Grammys rolled into one.”

It sounds great (I will be definitely watching) and it’s fantastic that it’s for a very worthy cause!  Many other stars are expected to attend including new mom Jessica Alba, cancer survivor, Christina Applegate, Charlize Theron and Katie Couric, who lost her husband, Jay, to colon cancer. 

Make sure you try to watch it and donate money if you can!

Here are some pictures of Kim Kardashian and her sisters heading into a taping of the Tyra Banks Show.  I do occasionally watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians but I always end up too upset to watch it regularly.  I love how close these girls are but I hate how mean they can get (not to mention violent – who raised these women!?).

It’s back-to-school time and I know parents are really busy as they try to get back into the routine.  Martha Stewart was on the Today show where she shared some easy and quick-to-make meals to make the transition a little smoother.  Watch a video of the segment here:

Herb-crusted Salmon with Spinach Salad *Serves 4

INGREDIENTS

• 3 slices white sandwich bread
• 1 cup fresh parsley
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• Coarse salt and ground pepper
• 4 skinless salmon fillets (6 ounces each)
• 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
• 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
• 5 ounces baby spinach
• 1/2 medium red onion, thinly sliced

Do you remember this?  Talk show host, Ellen Degeneres, stopped into the “famed” Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater where she led a class straight into hilarity!  It really was funny and is an example of why Ellen is so loved.  Too funny.  I can’t wait for the new season to start!
