The View Talks About the "N" Word

The ladies on The View talked about how the “n” word was bleeped on the show which upset Whoopi Goldberg.
Whoopi always gets fired up but she was extra passionate about this issue. She had some arguments for why the word should not be bleeped. It is a uncomfortable topic, for sure, but I think I understand what Whoopi was saying.

LOOK THIS IS EASY.i CAN MAKE FUN AND CRITIZE MY FAMILY,BUT DONT YOU DO IT.THATS THE MOST PEOPLE ARE AND YET WHEN IT COMES TO THE “N” WORD PEOPLE DONT GET IT ,WHEN IN FACT IT COMES FROM THE SAME THOUGT PROCESS.
I am sick and tired of all this nonsense. I was called a WASP gowing up all the time, but is that a word that we bleep or say the “W” word. Same difference. Get a grip. Especially if you are talking about the words and not using them derogatorially. Grow up people!!

as an addition to my above comment, calling someone a “white anglo saxon protestant” (ohh how painful!) does not have the same historical impact of calling someone the n word.

Why did the view bleep it when Whoopi said it if it is OK for her to use it since she is black? Maybe it should be bleeped if whites use it and not when blacks use it. And what is Sheri thinking when she says it is OK with her if black comedians use it in their acts, but whites ca never use it. There are whites in the audience. What do they think we are laughing at? So I guess we can laugh when black use it to make fun of someone of their own race, which to me seems like we are then also using the word without saying it. Sheri better rethink some of the things she says!
I’m white and I’ve tried to be tolerant all my life. So why am I lumped in with all the white bigots in history? If blacks view whites as one big bigoted group, no matter how the individual white has tried to live his/her life, excuse me, I think that’s racism.
Wow, it’s okay for some people to say the n word but not others? The comment to Barbara Walters made no sense….A bit racist on Sherrie’s part. If it’s a word one can use at all, it should be okay for all to use, whether it’s endearment or whatever excuse.
I don’t usually agree with Elizabeth on alot of things but I totally agree on the point she was trying to make, especially when we’re trying to teach all kids to be equal!!!!! Yes, watch the movie “Crash”.
I can’t stand watching the View anymore because Whoopie and Sherri have turned it into a black forum. Whoopie made it very clear that she does not believe in equality - she stated that she and Elisabeth were from two different worlds. The N word is ugly, inappropriate and should not be used in any forum, especially in a public forum. It is not ok for one race to tell another what they can and can not say, as Sherri did on the show. Get back to entertaining!
Alrighty well if your a WASP your a WASP. But that also has to do with a racist group. I get tired of white supremacists (modern day) minimizing the issue. They’re the same ones that came up with PC. It’s a way to further dehumanize a population and render them powerless by taking away what they can or can’t say. It’s only been two years about that jews have demanding to be called “jewish” Not to refer to them as such gives these folks more reason to be virulent and retaliate against you for not seeming them as “chosen” though we don’t SAY it anymore. I mean c’mon!!! I hate the word nigger because as a Blak I know what it means. Whites have been fighting to say the word free and clear for decades. It’s a fight for freedom but I believe it’s misplaced. It’s intention as Whoopi stated in the vid is to cut your self esteem. When I call a white person a white supremacist or cracker that is one of the many things I’m attempting to do. We live as if we are constantly being molested. Too harsh? I think not just think of the tactics of abusers and molestors and tell me if this isn’t in fact what we live in today. Once a victim speaks out it looses power. I dont’ like the word but if you call me a nigger it doesn’t effect me and I see you for the scared, insecure, infantile minded prick you are. No matter what race you are.
Elisabeth is so right. Our kids did not grow up in the ROOTS time period. Why should they be pointed at if the N word is to be used or not. if noone can say the C word then noone should say the N word. if all can say the C word then all can say the N word. Come on Whoopi and Sherri lets keep on trying to equalize this world. you two seem to be the ones that are not moving on. Why are you not helping with the chance to improve our children’s thoughts on racism…you are causing racism by your views, how can you be proud of that???? Whoopi you say that the N word is out there and should not be ignored. are you for real?? There are soooo many words out there that should be ignored or not used by anyone. High School social studiesTeacher The word has no power when a race of people are confident about themselves. The black community needs to be clear on what is PC. I cant keep up anymore. Most People in our world have been slaves at some point in history. Every empire from the beginning of time has been built from the blood and sweat of slavery. Romans, Vikings, Egyptians took slaves who were anglos,celtic and jewish. Dago, guinea, whop, mick, harp, kike are all derogatory words. They have no power unless a group of people feel victimized. Black Americans need to understand that many African tribes were involved in the slave trade as well. Let go of the past or you will never get over the scars all of our peoples have felt from slavery and bigotry. Nigga nigger, white trash redneck ,drunken irishman. Laugh at ignorance and be proud of who you are and know that we all come from the same blood. We are all dysfunctional siblings trying to be alpha and we need to grow up.
I think folks better do some reading. I don’t use the word because it is saysto someone you are a low down worker a low caste of no value. As a Christian I want to uplift folks with my communication not tear them down. The black communities are not the only group to be called Nigger! In the dictionary it means low worker, stingy. My Grandfather a 1/2 Cherokee/white was called this when he worked the coal mines, he was low class. I remember some hillbillies called this by a Yankee group! Irish, Poles and other groups who where considered of low class were also called niggers. The black group doesn’t own this word; sadly they seem to be the group most targeted for this word than other groups! How about a group discussion about the injustice to other groups, start with the American Indian! Talk about a minority that gets walked on, hated, and with little means to improve. A group with the highest addiction rate and no one cares, that is the American Indian, stuck on a white mans coral called a Reservation!

And by the way no other so-called race has been called nigger. The indians were in good with the euros until money became more important. Indians had african/black slaves just like whites did. Mexicans did too so miss me with that nonsense. If you guys read all of history and not just some, you’d no this. The whites created a color caste (by shades) They see the native as honorable and humble. No one else besides jews recieves reperations for the atrocities committed against them. You’ve received an apology. I don’t hear whites in text or any other document calling you nigger.
Continued use of the N word by anyone only propagates the problem. The fact that it was brought into being by the caucasion race and therefore hateful, does not mean that continued use of the word by ANYONE just causes the problem to continue.
I know I’m dealing with children here so I’ll say it again. Whoopi made the comment that we’ve turned it into something different because whites usually create to destroy ie breaking thing that weren’t broke (nature, animal kingdom,etc.) Quit complaining because you can’t win this arguement and therefore if you can’t have it than no one can. This is americas PATHOLOGY. Either you create havoc or destroy balance created out of your havoc. As Louise Hay says it’s your thinking. Energy has power and enough people thinking the same thing causes that energy to manifest into a solid and then you have what boyz and girlz? The pathology of whiteness. Most other cultures have a balance and have known divinely what it is like to be one with everything. It wasn’t just the natives, but the Blaks, Asians, Indians, and the list goes on. Havoc and disorder came when whites taking from Kemet or Egypt relgion decided they wanted to be gods and take over the world. It was in this ball of energy or thought that caught fire with enough people to manifest into a something physical. In order to keep people down words were taken from other languages and recontextualized and often times murdered so that it became something Spirit can’t even stand the vibration of. Many of you whining on here and claiming not to be racist are in direct linkage with your forefathers. Racism has changed because folks under the auspice of liberalism and claiming to have been brutalized by hister have insidiously changed the way hate is executed so to speak. But truth can’t be hid. You are what you are because you have chosen not to change your consciousness. While the rest of us are working hard to preserve our in ward health (that is also being taken away gradually through the same tactics I’m explaining) the rest of you are scoff saying there is no god unless we define it for you; you can’t say this or that unless we tell you you can and if you hold to your truth we will throw tempertantrums and the next chance we get, whether it’s a little Blak girl in geri tallini’s classroom where he/she is supposedly teaching history, or on the job with a Blak woman who is smarter than you and better at her job. I’ve been around and seen it in every aspect of what is called a civilized society. The difference is I speak up and call you on your poopoo. Just accept you don’t have the right to judge others who use the word and YOU can definitely not use it.
