Matt Lauer’s Son Not in Car Seat

Today show co-anchor, Matt Lauer, was spotted getting into his chauffeured SUV with his baby on his lap.  TMZ cameras caught Lauer with wife Annette and son Thijs leaving the Marc Jacobs store in SoHo this past Saturday, with Lauer holding his son on his lap as his SUV took off.   (I couldn’t find a video to put up here so click on the image to your left if you want to see it).

Apparently, there’s some really stupid loophole about the legality of this.  "According to New York’s Taxi & Limousine Commission, the child does not have to have a car seat because hired cars are exempt."

I hate it when people use these rules to get around being safe with their children.  I don’t care what the law is.  Does the NY Taxi & Limousine Commission also state that hired cars never get in to accidents?  I don’t think so!

Interestingly, after Britney Spears was caught driving with her baby in her lap back in June of 2006, Lauer grilled Britney about being labelled a "bad mother."   Here’s a tiny excerpt of that conversation:
